Gardening Club

There is something magical about a Walled Garden, maybe it’s that ‘Secret Garden’ feeling of stepping through the gates into another world, maybe it’s the peace and the quiet within those walls, or maybe it’s what is growing in the garden itself. Our garden is an acre and half in size and is filled with rows of organically grown cut flowers, big shrub borders, fruit trees and wild unkempt corners that are literally covered in butterflies, bees (and weeds). Previously used as a Cut Flower business we now use the space as a place for folk to escape, reconnect and just enjoy being outside. Run as a community garden by volunteers we look after the space TOGETHER, grow what we can and sell what we grow for the benefit of others.

The Project

“The glory of gardening: hands in the dirt, head in the sun, heart with nature. To nurture a garden is to feed not just the body, but the soul.” (Alfred Austin)

The idea behind The Walled Garden Project is to open up the garden and share it with you. With the volunteers in the Gardening Club we work together to look after the soil, the flowers and the trees in the garden. What we grow we sell at our P.Y.O days where all profits go to charity. Gardening is good for the mind as well as the soul just being outside and working with the earth can help in so many ways. Gardening Club offers an escape from normal life as you garden alongside the bird song and bee hum but it can also bring people together and create beautiful new friendships.

What’s involved? Just turn up on any Tuesday to the garden from 10am till 3pm and we’ll be there, don’t worry if you can’t do the whole day just come for a bit. No need to commit to every week either as we understand that you are all busy and you might not be able to come each week. It’ll just be nice to see you when you can come. No experience needed just bring a pair of gardening gloves if you have them and any tools you like using although we have plenty of spares here to be used if you don’t have any at home.

Every few months we host a big communal Gardening Club lunch where we all sit down and enjoy a delicious and well earned meal together; all other Tuesdays just bring your own packed lunch.
